Pink Lightning

Introduction: This dress one one of the costumes I got for $10 each in New Mexico. In order to get the costumes for that price, I had to buy all five of them. This was the dress I liked the least of the five. In fact, if I didn't have to get the dress in order to get the discount, I never would have bought it. I have a lot of things on my Gene want-list, but this definitely wasn't one of the things. I don't especially like the 1950s full, 'pouffy' dresses (although I don't dislike them, exactly), and this one was way too full for me. However, I must admit that it doesn't look too bad on Gene, and at least now I have one very '50s dress for her. For $10, and the chance to get the other costumes, it was worth it.

The Dress: The dress is made out of a navy blue taffeta. Like I said, I don't like the cut of the dress. There is a 'shocking pink' shawl-affair, which is permanently attached to the dress. The pink shawl-thing is made of some sort of gauze, is not lined, and is therefore rather see-through, so I don't like that part of the dress, either. The dress is a little hard to get on, because you have to sort of loop the pink thing over Gene's head after putting the dress on, and it's a little tricky. The dress is lined with silver underneath the dress, and a little silver peeks out at the front of the dress. It's kind of flashy, but it's cute enough, and saves the dress from being too boring. The dress definitely has pouf; it's almost one of those "stands up by itself" dresses. There is an underskirt (I think it's of the same pink stuff on the bodice) but it is permanently attached to the overskirt.

The Accessories: The shoes are some blue, little, looped slip-ons. I personally don't like the slip-ons, because they don't stay on Gene's feet well. They look nice with the dress, though. There are some little pearl earrings (of which I've got about four pairs, now), and there is a pearl necklace. I liked the pearl necklace, though, because this is the only one I've got (so far), and it looks nice with lots of different outfits. Also, it has a hook instead of a clasp, and so I can (almost) easily get it on Gene. Finally, there is a clutch purse made out of the blue taffeta, but it is unopenable.

Pictures:

Simply Gene Raven models the dress. In the pictures, Gene is not wearing the pearl necklace. The clutch purse is shown on the picture below, on the left.
