- Latest News:
- January, 2002: I know it's been a
dreadfully long time since I last updated. I apologize.
However, there has been some exciting Gene news around my
house. I've gotten a TON of furniture for Gene this past
year. Gene is now the proud owner of an (almost) complete
kitchen set, a living room set, and a bedroom set, in
addition to a few other sundry pieces. She also has a new
'friend' - Madra! Yes, Madra finally arrived just before
Christmas. I shall have photographs of many of Gene's new
things all around the webpage. Please take a look above
at the Updates list to see what's new! Anyway, have a
happy 2002, everyone!

- P.S. By the way, I am getting
excited about this year's Gene line. Although not
everything is out yet, I especially like Violet's
"Out of the Blue" (that'll probably be the
Violet I get), and Madra's "Top This,"
"Midnight Blossom" and "Dark Desire."

News as of July 2001:
- Early-July: Well, there's
not too much exciting Gene news. I re-set-up Gene on a
different shelf, and put her with her patio set, her hat
boxes, and her album. I've also been finding some neat
accessories. My Mom found a guitar for her, and I found some kitchen
accesories.
News as of June 2001:
- Mid-June: A few weeks
ago, I had my graduation picture taken. In the pictures I
wore vintage attire, and I had the photographer imitate
the old black and white Hollywood portraits, especially
the beautiful pictures by Hurrel. I looked at a lot of
books on the subject for inspiration, and of course, I
then had to try to take Gene's picture in the
same way. While I was at it, I also took a whole bunch of
pictures of Gene in her various outfits. You'll be seeing
those in the next month or two.
News as of May, 2001:
- Late-May: The next
exciting Gene happening was when I got up the nerve to cut Gene's hair. I'm so glad I did it, even if it was rather
harrowing!
- Mid-May:Well, in mid-May, my family and I
went down to New Mexico for a short vacation. We did lots
of really fun things, but some of the best parts for me
were my Gene discoveries. While exploring Old Town
Alburquerque, I found out that there was a doll shop. So,
of course, I visited it, but they didn't seem to have any
Gene. So I asked about Gene, and the shopkeep told me
that she did actually have a few Gene costumes in a
cupboard, but she wasn't going to carry Gene costumes
anymore (they took up too much room). She told me what
the costumes were (there were five different costumes,
and she had more than one of a couple of them), but I
wasn't too interested (the only one I might have really
wanted was 'Tango'). But then, when I asked if they were
for the regular retail price, she said that I could have
them for $15 each! So, then I was interested (LOL), and I
had her take down all the costumes so I could look at
them. Then, she told me that if I bought one of each, I
could have them for $10 each! This was too good to be
true, even if I didn't really want 'Pink Lightning.' She
told me that I could even have them for $8 each if I
bought all of them (but I didn't want more than one each,
since I don't resell or anything). So I bought all five,
one of each. I just sort of went back to the car in a
daze, laden down with packages. I now was the proud
possessor of 'Tango,' 'Pink Lightning,' 'Promenade,'
'Striking Gold,' and 'Blonde Lace.' Then, I went on to
another doll shop, one which I knew had Gene. This was
the 'Land of Enchantment Doll Store and Museum.' Well,
enchantment certainly was the right word. I walked in
there, with less than an hour to spare before closing,
but my family had to practically drag me out. I didn't
get to see the doll museum at all that day (I did get to
see the Gene case in the museum, though); I was too busy
staring rapt at more Genes than I had ever seen at one
time before. They have practically everything there! Even
some of the really rare Genes, such as the 2000 Paris
Convention doll. I also got to talk with the owner of the
shop, and one of the employees, who is sort of their Gene
ambassador. She got me to join the New Mexico Gene Club,
and I have since been getting their newsletters. They, by
the way, are giving a Gene convention later this year,
and the theme will be the 'Santa Fe Opera.' Since opera
is another of my passions, I was thrilled. I probably
won't get to go to that convention in person, but I may
submit a doll to the competition...Anyway, I had a blast,
needless to say. 'The Land of Enchantment' doll store was
having a sale, too, and I bought Gene's 'Patio Set' and
the 'Lucky Stripe' dress (they had a few bagged dresses
taken from dolls). My Mom bought me the 1998 Gene book.
We couldn't do the doll museum that day, and as we were
heading up to Santa Fe and Taos, we couldn't come back
the next day. But, on our way back home, we dropped in
again, and I got to see the Genes again and the doll
museum. I also bought another Gene outfit, 'St. Moritz.'
I was in Gene Heaven, that trip!
